There was very limited health care available in those dark days but no matter what I did, I kept getting worse. 

 I am a believer. One day I was out for a walk talking in my mind to God and I felt I should eat yogurt. I went to a store right away and purchased some probiotic yogurt. 

Over the next few days, I ate the same brand daily and my digestive problems disappeared.

Now I am convinced yogurt evangelist. Vegan Yogurt doesn't only go perfectly with your morning cereal or as a snack but might positively impact your overall health.

    Today, many supermarkets provide store-bought almond milk yogurt; popular U.S. brands include Kite Hill, Silk, and 365 by Whole Foods Market.

    But almond milk yogurt isn't hard to make at home, and at far less cost than any brand you could find in the grocery store.

    There are several methods for creating homemade yogurt, some of which we'll go through in this article.

    Let's examine the benefits of yogurt made with almond milk.

    As I told in my story at the beginning, it is a joy to do a recipe and recommend a product that has had a massively positive impact on your personal life.

     There are almond farming detractors that put down almond culture as negative for the environment. But even though almond farming requires significant amounts of water, animal-sourced food production is significantly worse for the environment. 

    Almond farming emits fewer greenhouse gases and has less saturated fat than soy or dairy milk.

    Saturated fat should always make up 10% or less of your daily calorie intake. So almonds are a win-win for the environment and our health.

    Almonds offer value as a vitamin E, fiber, biotin, calcium, and magnesium source

    Even though almond milk offers fewer calories than dairy milk, it still tastes great. 

    Dairy-free yogurts contain live active cultures that promote good digestion (our almond milk recipe is one of them!). Active, good gut bacteria help us stay healthy by boosting our immune systems and reducing inflammation.

    But even if almond yogurt is good for you, store-bought yogurt brands contain too much sugar and preservatives.

    Why should you make vegan yogurt only with homemade almond milk?

    You can create rich, non-dairy yogurt at home using any vegan milk.

    The advantage of homemade vegan milk over store-bought is that homemade milk produces quality yogurt that sets correctly and consistently.

    Store-bought vegan milk doesn't contain enough protein, and its many additives and sugar might prevent the yogurt from forming the way it should.

    Making homemade fresh almond milk gives you complete control over the ingredients in your dairy-free yogurt, and you may start with a fuller milk base by using more almonds.

    How to Make Almond Milk Yogurt from Scratch

    Almond Yogurt Ingredients

    You only need two ingredients, plus some water, to make plain homemade almond yogurt.

    The exact ingredient amounts are found in the recipe card below

    Making the Almond Milk

    - Place the almonds in water for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.

    - Choose blanched or whole almonds that are raw rather than roasted.

    - When ready to prepare the almond milk yogurt, drain the soaked almonds and combine them with 2 cups of water in a blender (ideally on high speed).

    - Blend for around 35 seconds or until completely smooth, then pour through a nut milk bag.

    - Squeeze to extract as much liquid as possible, then keep the pulp to make energy balls, crackers, or other baked goods. You can also stir it into any porridge.

    Fortunately, this was already the most challenging portion! This delicacy may be consumed straight up, added to cereal, or used to make almond yogurt, as we do further below.

    The best vegan yogurt starter to use

    You will need high-quality probiotics to produce your yogurt from almond milk.

    You may need to do some research because, regrettably, the majority of them are not vegan-friendly.

    Do you already take probiotic capsules? You might get away with cutting open a capsule with a knife and using the powder to make your almond milk yogurt!

    If you are on a budget, you could use cheaper vegan cultures or even no starters to make your yogurt. In this article, we share a trick to do just that. 

    Do I Need an Instant Pot or Yogurt Maker?

    Our easy homemade almond yogurt does not call for any kitchen appliances.

     But we recommend using a yogurt maker or an instant pot for faster, more consistent yogurt-making results. 

    The Instant Pot is a must-have if you want to make large amounts of yogurt, like in our Instant Pot Vegan Yogurt Recipe.

    A yogurt electric maker makes your life easier, as in Make Vegan Yogurt without a starter.

    If you want to make yogurt frequently, in quantity, it makes it lots easier and is worth the initial expense. You don't need to make tiny jars of Yogurt. Only pour it into the instant pot, and you're ready to go! Making 8 cups of yogurt by doubling the recipe is so easy.
    The yogurt maker has the most consistent temperature, so it is optimal. But it takes half a day to produce a small yogurt batch. Not enough if you have a large family with teens. The yogurt that took you one day to make will last 15 minutes. Ouch. But if you want to enjoy the ease and quickness of a Yogurt Maker and you are ok with getting small amounts of yogurt, the procedure is the same as the Crockpot or Oven method above.

    Equipment sterilization

    At the very least, sterilize the jars you use to store the yogurt.

     It would be ideal to disinfect all of the kitchen equipment you want to use before you begin making your almond milk yogurt.

    You can accomplish this at home by washing the items in hot water and baking them for 10 minutes at 320 掳F (160 掳C).

    Please be advised that you shouldn't use high temperatures on plastic containers.

    Yogurt-making instructions

    - Now add the probiotic powder to the almond milk. Mix with a spoon or hand whisk to make easy, homemade almond yogurt. 

    - Pour the probiotic-almond milk mix into the sterilized jars, then cover with cheesecloth.

    - Now set the yogurt jars on the kitchen counter. Let the yogurt sit at room temperature for 48 hours. 

    - You'll get a yogurt made with almond milk that is creamy, tangy, and slightly sour as a reward! 

    - Skim over the yogurt on top and ditch any excess liquid.

    - Now add your favorite cereal or fruit. Enjoy. 馃榿

    How to Thicken Almond Milk Yogurt

    We don't add thickeners to our simple, 2-ingredient almond milk yogurt recipe. We adore its consistency. 

    We don't mind using it in smoothies or pouring it over our muesli, even when we get a runnier dairy-free yogurt.

    We wanted to rapidly walk you through the various methods of thickening yogurt made from almond milk because we understand that you might prefer a firmer final product.

    Common Vegan Thickeners

    • Cornstarch 
    • Arrowroot Powder
    • Tapioca flour
    • Guar gum
    • Agar Agar Powder
    • Pectin
    • Locust bean gum 
    • Locust bean gum 
    • Xanthan gum
    • Soy or sunflower lecithin

    The thickeners do their magic by mixing the almond milk with any of them on a pan on the stove.

    If you want thicker Greek yogurt, filter out any extra liquid using cheesecloth with a fine mesh strainer.

    Refrigerate the yogurt for a few hours before serving for that thick, creamy Greek consistency.

    Vegan Yogurt Flavoring Options

    Add maple syrup or agave to this dairy-free yogurt for improved flavor. 

    The options are endless. One of our favorites is adding vanilla extract or vanilla beans for that exotic taste.

    Other yogurt flavoring options include fresh fruit or jam, nut butter, almond extract, vegan caramel sauce, and cocoa powder. Your imagination is the limit.

    If you don't purchase a yogurt starter culture, you have two options: Use plain yogurt, maybe coconut or almond yogurt, as a starter or use soy soak water as your starter.

    Vegan milk options

    What if you don't have almonds? Maybe you can use something else in the pantry to make the milk. What about soybeans, cashews, or oats?

    Yes, there are options. Soybeans make great vegan yogurt. 

    You could also make cashew yogurt using cashew milk. You could also use coconut milk, oats, or even rice to make your yogurt.

    Any choice you make, you can feel good knowing no animals suffer because of your food choices. You are also eating healthy. A win-win all around. 

    Serving the Almond Yogurt

    You can have your almond milk yogurt plain or add many different toppings.

    Options range from nuts to handmade date granola, swirled chia jam, roasted nuts, and puffed quinoa; there are just too many to name here.

    We enjoy having it in the morning with some oats or muesli, as a dairy-free yogurt bowl, or as a straightforward vegan parfait! 

    Most of them work well, even if the almond milk yogurt is too runny.

    You can also use it as an oil alternative in baking recipes, enjoy it with vegan pancakes, waffles, or cr锚pes, in a smoothie, or as a savory yogurt salad dressing.

    Storage: Keep in the refrigerator in an airtight container for no longer than a week before consuming.

    Even without an Instant Pot or yoghurt machine, almond milk yoghurt is easy to make.

    Making almond yoghurt requires a few ingredients and a little hands-on time.

    Most of the yogurt's preparation time consists of waiting.

    You spend a few minutes hashing together your yogurt and then let it culture overnight. 

    Then wake up to deliciously tart homemade almond yogurt! It will be naturally devoid of coconut, gluten, and soybeans.

    Is almond milk yogurt vegan?

    Yes, since almond milk yogurt, whether homemade or store-bought, doesn't contain animal products

    After looking at different brands of commercial almond yogurts, like Silk, 365 Whole Food Markets, and Kite Hill, we could not find any animal-sourced ingredients.

    So, we can confirm that you are 100% safe consuming store-bought almond milk yogurt as a vegan.

    What is almond milk yogurt made of?

    To start with, well, yes, almonds.

    But looking at a popular brand like Kate Hill, we found the following ingredients on the product label:

    Almond Milk (Water, Almonds), Cane Sugar, Starch, Citrus Fiber, Natural Flavors, Vanilla Extract, Locust Bean Gum, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Vanilla Bean Seeds, Live Active Cultures( S. Thermophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L. Acidophilus, and Bifidobacteria).

    How to Make Easy Homemade Vegan Almond Milk Yogurt

    The easiest vegan almond milk yogurt recipe made with only 2 ingredients! Probiotic-rich and gut-friendly, this almond milk yogurt is a healthy addition to any breakfast or snack, kid-friendly and savory.     Ingredients
      

    • 1 cup almonds
    • 2 cups water 480 ml
    • 2 unit probiotic vegan capsules

    Instructions
     

    • Put your almonds in a bowl and add water to cover them. When ready to prepare the yogurt with almond milk, soak it for the night and drain.
    • Blend the soaked almonds in 2 cups of fresh water to create a foamy, creamy mix.
    • Squeeze the nut milk bag with your hands to extract as much almond milk as possible from the pulp.
    • Cut open the probiotic capsules, then add the powder to the almond milk after pouring the liquid into a large bowl. Stir or use a spoon to mix thoroughly.
    • Pour the almond-yeast mix into the sterile jars and cover with cheesecloth.
    • After sitting for 48 hours at room temperature, you should have a pleasant-smelling, tart yogurt. If you notice an unpleasant scent, don't eat the yogurt and start over. This time around, sterilize all utensils carefully.
    • Homemade vegan yogurt should be kept in covered jars in the refrigerator for up to a week.
